On 3rd May 2019 a severe Cyclonic storm “Fani”, with torrential rains and high wind speed ranging from 180kmph to 205kmph hit Odisha; which left a trail of destruction in the coastal areas (14 districts). It seriously affected 16.55 million people, disrupted communications, levelled hundreds of thousands of homes, destroyed crops and swept away thousands of livestock. Out of all Puri and Khordha are the worst affected districts.

As per the report received from Government and our assessment women (especially Pregnant and Lactating mothers), children below 5 years, Women headed families, Elderly and differently abled people are in utter distress. Along with shelter, stored food grains at households, livestock (small and large ruminants), farms & orchards, drinking water sources and household sanitation facilities have been severely damaged. Nearly 1.2 lakh children under 5 years of age and 20 thousand pregnant women and lactating mothers got affected only at Puri.
