‘To improve the quality of life of the rural people’…
Harsha trust is a non-profit organization with a mission to improve the quality of the life of the people in South Odisha.
A RAIN STOPPED EARLY EVENING WHEN THE DARK CLOUDS GO BEHIND THE HILL AND THE RAINBOW COMES WITH ITS COLOURS, THE BODY AND MIND FEELS FREE BY INHALING THE FRESH AROMA OF THE FLOWERS, FINALLY WITH THE WATER TRICKLING SOUND WHEN THE RAIN WATER COMES DOWN TO THE GREEN LEAVES”.
Inspires the people which makes them give their cent percent, also for the people who leave their families and work. It’s all about holding it together!
More than what the organization is, one must look out on the structure, the building blocks, the people behind and with this organization. Sustainable development is an upcoming motive and takes serious guts to work upon it. The thread to the success of this organization lies in it’s people.
Bismaya Mahapatra, who had the inception of this trust along with six other people had come up with the trust right in 2001.
“We the people were guided by Bismaya” said Mr.Gautam Pradhan, the executive director who was amongst the six people who came up with the idea of the trust. He had faith that this trust, helping people, improving the quality of people’s lives could be a career scope and he most definitely enjoyed this work.
Running down the memory lane, this organization started in 2002 and enough opportunity to work but right in the year 2003, stars struck down and the trust dealt with a sudden crisis. In the year 2003, all the works came to an end, there was not surplus money and this organization back in the day was only running among 7 people. All the costs were reduced to 50% for 9 months. There was scarcity of funds which further led to no distribution of salary in the 10th month.
This dark period certainly profound light on 21st December 2003, when Tata trust funds decided to fund the organization. Moreover, the trust also got opportunities from other funds as well.
Gauta, shared his experience and his journey with Harsha, when asked what were the challenges he came across during the initial years, he said system setting, good quality human resources and leadership qualities were a few issues that they pondered upon. He also mentioned that 2002-2007 was a crucial phase where in only the resources were constant. Gautam became the executive director (2012-2017) he had problems in facing quality human resources and creating a prototype, an alignment for all the people working in the organization.
He had done his post graduation in Agriculture and was trying for banking after his post graduation. On 17th July 2013, Bismaya asked him, ‘What do you want to do in the future?’ He replied saying, “I am trying for banking”. He later said he’d love to run the organization. Things took a turn in his life and personality right at that point of time. It brought in a drastic change and he believed that he could change things by working in this organization.
